Climate adaptation and water supply

Risk management in the event of floods, torrential rain and the impact of bank filtrate

Climate change is also causing changes to the water balance in Bavaria and is increasing the risks (e.g. more frequent extreme weather) to the public water supply. To ensure the water supply is secured even under unfavourable framework conditions, an in-depth survey of water extraction plants at risk is carried out in Bavaria.

To ensure the water supply is secured even under unfavourable framework conditions, an in-depth survey of potentially vulnerable drinking water extraction plants is being carried out in Bavaria. Thereafter, all plants impacted by the above-specified risks across Bavaria are subjected to a detailed risk assessment regarding their level of influence in order to develop or derive suitable corrective measures. On this basis, we intend to develop specialist and methodical guidelines to recommend suitable methods of investigation and to define criteria which can be used by water supply companies to perform a risk assessment in their plants. TZW is performing the analysis and assessment of organic micropollutants and provides scientific support. It will also evaluate suitable risk assessment methods as part of supporting research projects.
