Future-oriented reorganisation

Three heads of department took up their new positions at TZW on 1 January 2021 (from left to right): Sebastian Sturm (Water supply, Karlsruhe), Dr Andreas Korth (Water distribution, Dresden) and Dr Johannes Ruppert (Test centre, Karlsruhe Durlacher Wald).

TZW is starting 2021 with a new, future-oriented organisational structure. At the end of the year, two long-standing heads of department retired. "We have used the change in personnel to make the organisation at TZW leaner overall and thus more efficient. In addition, the organisational chart now reflects our thematic focal points even better," explains CEO Dr Josef Klinger. Since 01.01.2021, there are only six departments, each of which is subdivided into several sections.

The new head of the Water Supply department is Dipl.-Geoökol. Sebastian Sturm, who has already been responsible for many projects and research activities at TZW in the field of resource protection and risk management for 20 years. This department includes the sections of risk management (previously groundwater and soil) and concepts for supply structures and technologies (previously technology and economic efficiency).

The Water Distribution Department and at the same time the branch office in Dresden will be headed in future by Dr. Andreas Korth, who has already been working at the TZW in Dresden since 2000 and was previously Deputy Head of Department. The department is subdivided into the sections of management of distribution systems and digitalisation.

There will also be personnel and organisational changes at the TZW Test Centre. From now on, Dr. Josef Klinger will focus on his work as CEO and will hand over the management of the Test Centre and the branch office in Karlsruhe. The previous head of the corrosion department and deputy test centre manager, Dr. Robertino Turković, has left the TZW at his own request. Dr. Johannes Ruppert becomes new test centre manager and will be at the same time head of the department, which includes the sections Mechanical processes as well as Material hygiene, materials and corrosion as well as the section UV devices. Dr. Ruppert brings with him many years of experience in the fields of hygienic material testing and corrosion.

Further departments at TZW are Water Microbiology (headed by Prof. Dr. Andreas Tiehm) with its sections Drinking Water Microbiology and Environmental Biotechnology and Molecular Biology, and the department of Water Chemistry (headed by Dr. Frank Sacher) with its sections Water Chemistry Research and Chemical Analysis. Cross-sectional tasks are fulfilled by the Finance, Personnel and Infrastructure Department, which is headed by Thomas Maier, the Research and the Public Relations Units and the Quality Management.
